President Anura Kumara Dissanayake attended an Iftar gathering held recently (18) evening at the President’s House to mark the breaking of the daily fast observed by Islamic devotees during the holy month of Ramadan.
The event was attended by Islamic religious leaders, Ministers and Members of Parliament, as well as members of the diplomatic community and other distinguished guests. The programme was conducted giving prominence to religious observances.
Deputy Speaker Mr Rizvie Salih delivered the welcome address, while Deputy Minister of Religious and Cultural Affairs, Mr Munir Mulaffer, also addressed the gathering.
The President engaged in cordial interactions with those in attendance.
Prime Minister Dr Harini Amarasuriya; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment, Mr Arun Hemachandra; Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr Ruwan Ranasinghe; and Deputy Minister of Energy, Mr Arkam Ilyas were also present. Members of Parliament from both Government and Opposition, Governor of the Western Province Mr Hanif Yusoof, Mayor of Colombo Ms Vraie Cally Balthazaar, as well as government officials, High Commissioners, Ambassadors and other invitees were among those in attendance.
