Several units and infrastructure facilities at the Kalutara Nagoda Teaching Hospital have been upgraded at a cost of more than Rs. 134 million and were officially opened for patient services today (16) by Health and Mass Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.
The upgrades include the Outpatient Department, main pharmacy, clinics, corridors, Wards 21 and 22, the Health Education and Public Health Services building, and the psychiatric ward.
The doctors’ quarters, nurses’ rest room and junior staff rest room have also been renovated, while a newly constructed Minor Services Control Office was opened. A renovated three-wheeler was also handed over to the hospital.
Minister Jayatissa said the Government has allocated Rs. 45 billion to complete hospital construction projects that were started but left unfinished, with the aim of completing them within the next two years.
He added that 16 advanced cardiac catheterization laboratories are being established at major hospitals at a cost of Rs. 3.15 billion, while steps are also being taken to provide hospitals with essential modern medical equipment, including CT and MRI scanners.
