ri Lanka has extended a financial contribution of USD 1 million to the Government of Nepal to support ongoing humanitarian, relief and recovery efforts following the devastating Bhote Koshi River floods that occurred on August 26.
The contribution was formally handed over today by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Nepal Ruwanthi Delpitiya to Nepal’s Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu.
The floods caused significant loss of life and widespread damage in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and several other districts.
The assistance was provided in fulfilment of the commitment made by the Government of Sri Lanka, under the direction of President Anura Kumara Disanayaka, to extend support to Nepal following the disaster.
During the meeting, Ambassador Delpitiya conveyed the Government of Sri Lanka’s deep sympathy and solidarity with the people of Nepal and expressed heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
The financial assistance is intended to support the Government of Nepal’s ongoing humanitarian, relief and recovery efforts and assist communities affected by the floods and landslides.
The contribution further reflects the longstanding bonds of friendship, solidarity and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Nepal. Sri Lanka remains committed to supporting Nepal and its people during times of need and further strengthening the enduring bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The Government of Sri Lanka will continue to engage with the Government of Nepal and explore appropriate avenues to support ongoing relief and recovery efforts.
