Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan Agree to Expand Bilateral Cooperation

Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan have agreed to further strengthen bilateral ties by expanding cooperation in several key sectors and identifying new areas of partnership.

The agreement was reached during the first round of Political Consultations between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries, held in Tashkent on July 9, 2026. The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration in trade, investment, tourism, education, agriculture, publishing services, and air connectivity, while also exploring new opportunities for economic and regional cooperation.

The two sides also discussed launching a direct air service between Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan to boost tourism and people-to-people exchanges. Both countries agreed to hold the second round of Political Consultations in Colombo in 2027, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.
