Sri Lanka’s first locally manufactured amphibious vessel, capable of operating both on land and at sea, was launched for export to Europe at an event held yesterday (September 10) at the Koggala Free Trade Zone.
Manufactured by Ocean Voyager International, the technologically advanced vessel marks a new chapter in Sri Lanka’s marine manufacturing industry.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Industry Sunil Handunnetti said the Government has identified the boat and shipbuilding industry as a key sector capable of generating significant foreign exchange for Sri Lanka within a short period, given the country’s strategic location close to several major international maritime routes.
He further said the Government is committed to providing the necessary facilities and fullest support to transform Sri Lanka into a regional marine manufacturing hub, with the contribution of skilled Sri Lankan engineers and workers.
The Minister also emphasized that strengthening the domestic production economy and taking Sri Lankan-manufactured products to international markets remains a key priority of the Government.
Chairman of the SLYG Group Pierre Pringiers, representatives of the company management and officials of the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) were also present at the occasion.
