Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya stated that plans are underway to strengthen the State Printing Corporation with advanced technology and modern security printing capabilities, while gradually phasing out machinery that is more than 50 years old and purchasing new equipment.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while responding to a question on 08 September in Parliament.
The Prime Minister further stated:
At present, there are 445 permanent employees and 21 contract employees work under the State Printing Corporation
The Corporation undertakes a wide range of printing activities for both the public and private sectors, including school textbooks, provincial examination papers, lottery tickets, confidential documents, exercise books and election-related printing.
The Corporation also provides a range of important benefits, including regulating market prices and standards, meeting the need for a reliable security printing facility, reducing the Government’s printing costs, and generating returns to the Government through its contribution to the State.
The Prime Minister further stated that any institution can obtain printing services from the State Printing Corporation through a proper procurement process. The Prime Minister emphasised that the Government’s primary focus is on further enhancing the efficiency of the existing Corporation.
