Taxpayers Urged to Submit 2025/2026 Income Tax Returns by November 30

The Inland Revenue Department has urged taxpayers to submit their annual income tax returns for the 2025/2026 year of assessment on or before November 30, 2026.

Deputy Commissioner General J.M.S.S. Ratnawardhana made the announcement at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information on October 19. He said online submission of income tax returns has been available since July 1, 2026.

He noted that nearly 1.2 million individuals are registered with the department for tax purposes and urged taxpayers to submit their returns early rather than wait until the deadline.

He also clarified that individuals whose taxes have been deducted from their salaries or bank interest may still be required to file income tax returns, even if they believe they have no additional tax to pay.

Failure to submit returns within the stipulated period may result in penalties, legal action or additional tax assessments. Taxpayers were therefore urged to meet the deadline to avoid such consequences.
