Yasas Hewage officially assumed duties as the new Chairman of the Industrial Development Board (IDB) on June 1.
The IDB, one of Sri Lanka’s oldest enterprise development institutions with a history spanning over 60 years, plays a key role in promoting the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and supporting industrial development in the country.
Hewage brings nearly two decades of experience in banking, finance, business strategy, marketing, entrepreneurship development, and sports tourism. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Private Secretary to the Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development and contributed to several national initiatives aimed at strengthening the SME sector.
Speaking on his appointment, Hewage emphasized the importance of innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship in driving Sri Lanka’s industrial transformation and fostering a new era of industrial excellence.
His appointment is expected to further strengthen the IDB’s efforts to promote SME development, innovation, and industrial growth across the country.
