Accordingly, the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation was able to obtain a profit of Rs. 36 million for the first time last year as the state-owned corporation is currently undergoing a restructuring program and functioning smoothly under an orderly program.The Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development, Mahinda Amaraweera, on Tuesday (10) paid salary arrears accrued for a number of years and bonuses to the employees of the CFC for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival.
Accordingly Rs. 60 million was paid to the relevant employees as salary arrears, accumulated bonuses, festival advance, and April salary.Expressing his views, Minister Amaraweera said the Ceylon Fisheries Corporation was even close to being closed down in the recent past but under the current management program, the corporation is providing fish to the main supermarkets, main hospitals and the cafes of the leading schools. He said the CFC is now well positioned.
The Minister also said that in the next few days, the CFC will also enter the fish processing industry.Secretary to the Ministry Jagath P. Wijeweera and Ceylon Fisheries Corporation Chairman Jagath Perera also participated in this occasion.
