    Govt. to provide sanitation facilities to 1200 schools

    The government is to allocate two million rupees  to each of the 1,200 selected schools to provide sanitation facilities.

    .Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam addressing the media at the Ministry on Monday (28) said secondary schools belonging to the programme  "Closest School is the Best School“ (Langama Paasala Hondhama Paasala) have been included in this project.

    The Minister further pointed out that relevant construction activities have to be completed by the school development communities with the assistance of parents and the relevant amount will be provided to schools as a direct grant.  All construction activities have to be finalized before 31st December 2015 and they have to be vested in the students with effect from January 2016, he added.

    The minister said the board of supervisors comprising the Zonal Director of Education, Area Engineer, Director of Planning and Technical Officers will provide assistance at zonal level for the relevant construction activities.

    At Provincial level work will be supervised by a committee comprising the Provincial Director of Education, Provincial Director of Planning and Provincial Chief Engineer. The standard and constructions have to be monitored and certified by the Area Engineer, the Minister said. 

    According to the Minister, the facility will be provided to all the government schools under the next phase of this programme by year 2017.
