'Exercise-Mithra Shakthi', the annual Sri Lanka- India bilateral exercise is underway in the general area of Aundh Military Station in Pune, India. According to army sources the exercise with the participation of Special Operation Forces (SOF) of both Indian and Sri Lankan armies will go on for two weeks.
The exercise is designed by both Armies with a view to share knowledge and experience between their SOFs. The initial exercise was carried out in India in 2012 with the second being held in Sri Lanka at the Uva-Kudaoya Commando Regiment Training School in 2014.
Army sources further say that, plans are also afoot to conduct 'Exercise Sarp Vinash' with the aim of conducting joint cordon and search operations in rural / semi urban terrain by joint task forces of both armies.
