    Defence Secretary hands over Army built houses for War Hero families

    Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarchchi was the chief guest at the ceremony held at the Defence Services College in Colombo yesterday (12) to formally hand over army built houses to the families of War Heroes and disable servicemen of the Army.

    Thirty-five houses built by 18 regiments of the army under an initiative of the commander of the army Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva were handed over to the beneficiaries during the ceremony held at the College auditorium.

     

    The houses handed over today were constructed under the first phase of the project on land provided by the recipients.

     

    Speaking at the event the Secretary appreciated the army?s initiative in fulfilling the housing needs of the families of the War Heroes and disable servicemen. He said that this is a show of gratitude to the fellow servicemen who stood shoulder to shoulder to safeguard the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the country.

     

    President of the Seva Vanitha Unit of the MOD Mrs. Hettiarchchi, Mrs. Nayana De Silva, MOD officials and senior military officers were also present at the occasion.
