60-day Housing Development Operation launched

A 60-day Housing Development Operation has been launched. It will be operative in the months of November and December. The objective of this operation is to complete the development work of all houses targeted in the “Shelter for All” national programme mooted by the Government.

Accordingly Minister Sajith Premadasa has given instructions to comple work on all houses launched under the “Shelter for All” national programme during this particular two month period and also to complete the work of the new houses targeted for 31st of December.

 

It is planned to complete the construction of 35,000 houses under the 50,000 houses programme, “Shelter for All.” The investment made by the Government for this work is in the region of 3500 million rupees. 240 million rupees is to be invested under this housing programme for the construction of houses in 38 model villages. The target is to launch construction work on all these housing projects by the 31 of October.

 

Following a proposal mooted by Minister Sajith Premadasa 10,000 houses, each of them eligible to be plastered and repaired will be selected from every District and reconstructed. According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Housing and Construction, the intention of the Ministry is to commence the reconstruction work of these houses on the 01st of November and complete before the end of that month.
