He added that the next Provincial Council elections would be held under the mixed system. Under this system, 70 percent will be elected under the wards system and 30 percent under the mixed proportionate system.

The Ministry of Provincial Councils and Local Government has appointed a five member committee to provide solutions to issues surrounding demarcation of local government divisions. The committee that has been appointed according to the local government elections ordinance is scheduled to produce a report on electoral boundaries, names and numbers to the subject minister, the Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government Karunarathna Paranawithana said at the weekly Cabinet briefing held at the Government Information Department today (29).
