    Less Sugar from Today Featured

    November 14, 2015

All state institutions, food outlets, hotels and restaurants have been requested to serve tea without sugar from November 14. Sugar has to be served in separate containers, Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala said.

He said the Health Ministry has issued a special circular in connection with the use of sugar for preparing food and beverages at food outlets, hotels, restaurants etc. The circular will be implemented from November 14 which is World Diabetes Day, Dr. Mahipala said.

He said a special label should be pasted on the sugar container stating that low sugar consumption prevents diseases such as diabetes.

Dr. Mahipala said the sale of food with excessive sugar, salt and flour should be minimised at school canteens, too.
