Fashion Bug donates relief to flood victims

    June 11, 2014

The country’s leading retail clothing store donated dry rations and bottled drinking water to more than 250 families affected from the recent and on-going floods

Fashion Bug, one of Sri Lanka’s leading retail clothing stores with over 17 outlets island-wide, recently stepped up and took an initiative to donate the needy suffering from continuous and devastating flooding during the past few days caused by heavy rains.

Stepping up for this initiative in a small town in Pelenda Mathugama area, Fashion Bug Director Shabier Subian said that people affected from this natural disaster are desperately in need of help as showers are expected to continue. ‘‘During these hardship times private organizations must come forward in order support the public specially people who are displaced and who were affected with floods.’’

‘‘We’re proud to be a part of this and we encourage all other private organizations to come forward and make a contribution in these areas as the community is in need of help in order survive and get through day to day activities,’’ he further said.

The country’s Disaster Management Centre reported that during the last few days of rain, over 115,000 people have been affected by floods and landslides throughout the island, killing at least 23 people, with nearly 30,000 being housed in schools, temples and community halls.

As a part its notable CSR activities, the company donated more dry rations which contained essential means of food and pure bottled drinking water for more than 250 affected families in the small town with the guidance of the Mahanayake Thero of Raja Maha Viharaya temple, where it was then distributed amongst the community.

The temple’s Mahanayake Thero commended the company for its donation. "We are very delighted and thankful to see Fashion Bug coming forward and contribute towards this cause and helping families by providing them the basic necessities."

Fashion Bug commenced its operations since 1994 as a partnership business with 4 partners and a staff population of just 15, and today it possesses over 17 stores throughout the country with a workforce of over 1200 employees, and stands among the leading clothing stores in Sri Lanka catering with the fashion motto of 'Changing life Styles’.
