    SL and Pakistan to sign many agreements and MoUs next year

    The governments of Sri Lanka and Pakistan will sign a number of agreements in several sectors including trade, health, export, culture, industry and technology during Pakistan's Prime Minister Navaz Sharif's visit to Colombo next month.

    Pakistan Prime Minister Navaz Sharif is scheduled to make an official visit to Sri Lanka in the first week of January 2016.

    Sri Lanka's cabinet granted approval to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, in his capacity as the Minister of National Policies and Economic Affairs and Dr. Harsha de Silva, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, to sign the agreements with Pakistan.

    Following agreements will be signed during Pakistan Premier's official visit:

    • Agreement between the Ministry of National Policies and Economic Affairs and Ministry of Youth Affairs in the Republic of Pakistan on cooperation in the youth development field
    • MoU on exchange of statistical and census data between Sri Lanka and Pakistan
    • MoU on science, technology and innovations between the Ministry of Science, Technology and Research in Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Science and Technology in Pakistan
    • MoU between the National Science Foundation in Sri Lanka and the Science Foundation in Pakistan scientific and technological cooperation
    • MoU between the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan and Export Development Board of Sri Lanka
    • Agreement between the two countries on the cooperation in the health sector.
    • MoU between Pakistan and Sri Lanka on the cooperation in the cultural field
    • MoU between the Institute of Fashion and Design in Pakistan and Gem and Jewellery Research Training Institute of Sri Lanka
    • MoU between Pakistan and Sri Lanka concerning cooperation in the exchange of financial intelligence related to money laundering and terrorism financing
    • Agreement between Pakistan and Sri Lanka for bilateral cooperation on prevention and deterrence of money laundering and terrorist financing
