Coast Guard assist to seize oil spill at Nilwala River

Sri Lanka Coast Guard Oil Spill Response Team (OSRT) was able to control the oil leakage to Nilwala River from a filling station at Akuressa town in Matara recently.

Up on receiving information of the incident, the Oil Spill Response Team (OSRT) rushed to the location and was able to control the oil spill which would have led to enormous water pollution. OSRT also laid oil booms to cover the water inlets from Nilwala River to the water intakes which feed the National Water Supply and Drainage Board plants from two places at Balakawala and Haththuduwa.

 

The operation to recover spilled oil and cleaning is in progress with the assistance of Sri Lanka Navy.
