    St. Anthony's Church celebrates Silver Jubilee

    The annual feast of St. Anthony at Mayura Place will be celebrated tomorrow, marking its Silver Jubilee. The hoisting of the flag staff took place on July 1 at 6 followed by devotion and Eucharistic celebration.

    Preparatory Novenas were conducter for three days from July 2 to 4 followed by Eucharistic service.

    The procession with St. Anthony's Statue placed on a diligently decorated Motor Chariot will wend its way tomorrow at 4.30 pm through Mayura Place, Havelock Road, Swarna Path, Sri Siddharthapura, Canal Bank up to Kirilapona and then back to the Shrine.


    The traditional oil lamp will be lit tomorrow at 8am and trilingual festive Jubilee Eucharistic service will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Fernando, Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo assisted by Rev. Fr. Manokumar and Rev. Fr. Saman Maximus.


    At the end of the service, the final blessing with the statue of St. Anthony will be imparted by the Chief Celebrant.


    As customary, Parish Pastoral Council is organizing a special Novena Mass on July 8, in memory of late Rev. Fr. Cyril Perera OMI, the first Parish Priest of the sub parish, late Rev. Fr. Cyril S. Perera, late B. J. Joseph, founder church secretary and other departed benefactors of the church.


    After the Novena, 100 parcels of dry rations will be distributed to marginalized families in the sub parish.(SI)
