    Navy opens nine more RO plants for community use

    Nine more Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants produced by the Navy’s Research and Development Unit were opened for the community use in Anuradhapura, Jaffna and Polonnaruwa districts recently.


    The facilities were installed and opened at Elapathgama Sri Sobhitha Viharaya in Mahawilachchiya, Janakapura Rajamaha Viharaya in Sampathnuwara, Sripura Parana Medawachchiya Ranmaduwa Rajamaha Viharaya in Padaviya, Karagahawewa Viharaya in Thalawa, Poonewa Maha Vidyalaya, Aralaganvila Bulankulama and Pahalagama in Nuwaragam Pradeshiya Sabha, and in Keeramalei village under financial provisions and sponsorship provided by the Presidential Task Force on Prevention of Chronic Kidney Disease, Ministry of Buddhasasana, Sri Lanka Navy’s Social Responsibility Fund, Sports Club of Sri Lanka Customs, and North Central Local Government.

     

    The RO plant installed at Poonewa Maha Vidyalaya will provide safe drinking water for 1,216 school children and 345 families in the area.

     

    Meanwhile, the rest of the installations can provide safe drinking water for 450 families in Elapathgama, 470 families in Janakapura, 320 families in the area and Buddhist monks at Sripura Parana Medawachchiya Ranmaduwa Rajamaha Viharaya, 50 families in Keeramalei, 580 families in Aralaganvila, 500 families in the region together with Buddhist monks at Karagahawewa Viharaya, 490 families in Bulankulama and 520 families in Pahalagama respectively.



    Sri Lanka Navy’s Research and Development Unit has installed a total of 162 RO facilities across the country to date, facilitating over 76,925 families and 60,000 school children with safe drinking water provided free of charge.
