    A school for differently-abled children in Teldeniya

    The school for differently-abled children started with the personal funds of a businessman – Ganesh Velautham, domiciled in Britain, in Teldeniya in Kandy is due to celebrate its 1st anniversary on 21st instant in the school premises..


    The special invitees at the function will be the Minister for Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Development, Douglas Devananda, Minister for Mass Media and Communication Dr.Keheliya Rambukwella and S.A.Nadaraja, Commissioner in the Indian High Commission sub office in Kandy.


    The school which commenced in 2013 provides Ayurvedic treatment, aquatic  massaging treatment and horse riding.  All activities in the school are supervised by a Committee comprising parents of the differently-abled children.

     

    Branches of the Shivan schools are already operative in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi Districts and have about 130 enrolled children.  The Foundation expects to establish branches in other parts of the island while a branch will be established in Galle before the end of the year.  

     

    The aim of the Shivan Foundation is to provide free educational and health facilities in accordance with international standards to differently-abled children. (NJ/KH)
