SriLankan to join oneworld carriers at Terminal-3, London Heathrow Airport

    July 17, 2014

SriLankan Airlines, the newest member of the oneworld alliance, in view of providing convenient and hassle-free travel to passengers across the alliance will be operating from London Heathrow Airport’s Terminal-3, which is to become home to many oneworld carriers by 2016.  On July 16, the national carrier will join the oneworld members, American Airlines, US Airways, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, Quantas and Royal Jordanian that are currently operating from the Terminal.  Accordingly, UL 503 of July 16 will be the first SriLankan flight to arrive at Terminal-3.

With this move, SriLankan Airlines’ passengers who wish to acquire oneworld products and services will enjoy a greater reachability and convenience at Terminal-3. This will also boost the transit passenger experience, with many partner airlines located within close proximity and the minimum connecting time will be cut on average by 20 minutes. With the relocation plans in place, it is estimated that two thirds of the passengers using Terminal 3 will be oneworld passengers.

SriLankan Check-in area will be located at the Zone ‘C’ and the terminal will be equipped with a state-of-the-art, fully automated baggage system that will reduce mishandling.

Also in the blueprints are many enhancements ranging from New Arrivals Forecourt with chauffeur pick up facilities, new departure premium drop-off facility for oneworld passengers and new connections security for transit passengers.

Terminal-3’s, Zone B-G will have a check-in façade that creates more space and allows natural light in the location and a broader range of shopping and restaurant facilities for the passengers to choose from. Tristar counter at Terminal-3 will be facilitating premium passengers with a Limo service.

SriLankan started operating nine flights a week from July 13. (KH/SI)
