The severe drought has affected 60,240 people belonging to 16,885 families in six divisional secretariat divisions in Matale district and the government is taking all steps to improve their living conditions, District Secretary D.P.G. Kumarasiri said.
He made these comments at an awareness program on distributing drought relief held for Divisional Secretaries.
The District Secretary instructed the officials to go to the villages and distribute the relief.
He also said that the dry rations with due quality and weight should be given to the people and legal action would be taken against violators of the instructions.
