September 12, 2017

Two vessels with latest technology made for Sri Lanka to engage in deep sea fishing arrived at the Dikowita harbor recently.

These vessels were brought under the project ‘Blue Economy’ launched by Fisheries and Aquatic Resources State Minister Dilip Vedarachchi as a result of the discussions held for a long time.

In the future such vessels will be given to the fisher community through Fisheries Cooperatives.

State Mnister Vedarachchi said that purchasing such vessels are economically beneficial to the country. He also added that, plans are underway to develop the canned fishing industry and thereby save more than Rs 12 billion a year as foreign exchange.
