August 20, 2018

Four fishermen who had gone missing in the sea off Chilaw on Saturday after their boats capsized in rough seas, have been rescued by another group of fishermen and brought ashore. The four fishermen have been admitted to the Chilaw General Hospital for treatment.

The four fishermen from Wattakkalliya area in Chilaw have set out to sea in two boats at the pre-dawn hours of Saturday morning for fishing. When they did not return to shore in the evening their relatives had informed the Chilaw police and the police launched a search operation.

However another group of fishermen have rescued the four fishermen after their boats have capsized and brought them to the shore yesterday night. The Disaster Management Center advises fishermen to refrain from fishing in western seas since it is the high tide season in the region and the seas are rough. However, these accidents occur as some fishermen are disregarding the warnings, the police say.
