Western diplomatic missions plan to engineer Pink Revolution in Sri Lanka – Minister Weerawansa

    September 15, 2014

Some western diplomatic missions in Colombo are planning to engineer a ‘Pink Revolution’ in Sri Lanka to effect a regime change, says Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.

"Their plan is to sponsor fielding several candidates at the next Presidential election so that none would be able to poll more than 50 percent of total votes cast so as to pave way for the counting of second preferences. The presidential election has not so far entered this stage and the winners have been declared on the first round. The counting of second preferences will take at least 24 hours. It is their plan to make use of that period to mobilise their Facebook and social media brigades and make them take to the streets to wreak havoc," a press release issued by his ministry quotes minister as saying.

Minister Weerawansa addressing a ceremony at the Pradeepa Hall in Maligawatte to grant Jana Sevana loans to 650 public servants selected from the Western Province last week said at that at the last presidential election, Western countries had a plan and they worked and funded it. The plan was to find a person who could give a good fight to President Mahinda Rajapaksa thereby diverting the support of the parties like the TNA and JVP to that candidate. They found former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka and went according to the plan, but failed as the people had confidence in the President.

“This time, the same forces have hatched another plot. Ranil Wickremesinghe will be contesting representing the UNP and Anura Kumara Dissanayake will be contesting from the JVP. And at the same time, Ven. Sobhitha Thera will also be contesting while the TNA is also sending its own candidate from the North.  The TNA tells their voters to mark the second preference in favor of Wickremesinghe while voting first for their own man. With two many candidates from the South, there is a probability of any candidate failing to get over 50 percent of the votes.”

Minister Weerawansa said the western powers would sponsor a Tamil candidate to split the northern votes by enabling him to poll as many as 200,000 votes. They would also field several other Sinhala candidates to divide the Sinhala vote base and their voters would be instructed to give their second preference to UNP candidate Wickremesinghe.

“If no one gets over 50 percent, then we have to go for a second counting. That time period will be used to put the country in trouble. Then anti-Sri Lankan forces on social media networks and other platforms will begin their activities. We have to be very careful. The Western countries need only a weak President for Sri Lanka,” the Minister said. (Special Reporter)
