The Government is to establish an active operational centre named “International Relations Centre in the Eastern Province”, in Panama, Lahugala, aimed at creating a conducive administrative and social background centered around the Eastern Province for the people in the region, similar to the operational centre presently functioning in the Northern Province.
This move has been taken by the Government after observing the need to implement various administrative and social relations programmes to consolidate social integration and reconciliation of the community in the Eastern Province.
This complex is also intended to provide lodging facilities for visiting Heads of State and VVIPS as well as facilities for the conduct of discussions and seminars at international level.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
