    November 09, 2014

Six groups of the National Building Research Organization have begun investigations to identify locations in the Nuwara Eliya District which are vulnerable to landslides.

Accordingly investigations into rural as well as areas affiliated to tea estates threatened by landslides will be expedited. People from Kotmale, Ramboda, Weventon, Bogawantalawa, Maskeliya, Hatton, Nuwara Eliya, Ragala and Diyanilla areas which are threatened with landslides have already been evacuated.

The Nuwara Eliya Disaster Management Unit said that members of around 564 families have been found lodging in 20 temporary camps. The Estate Authorities have already allocated land to building new houses on behalf of families living in areas affiliated to tea estates and which are threatened with landslides.
