    Coconut saplings distributed free of charge by 7 programs

    The Coconut Cultivation Board (CCB) has distributed coconut saplings among growers under seven main projects during this year, CCB sources said.


    Accordingly, saplings have been distributed among planters under the Divi Neguma program, concession granted to coconut lands below five acres, Kaprukai Sipnenai Program, Kaprukai Parapurai Program, Rehabilitating coconut cultivations project, Planting coconut seedlings in places of worship, and Kapruka Purawara program. Under these programs, a total number of 2,124,796 coconut saplings have been distributed by the end of August this year, CCB sources said.

    The CCB distributed 76,956 coconut saplings among 38,478 growers under the Divi Neguma Program while 619,717 saplings had been supplied under the coconut concession granted to the lands below five acres with the intention of increasing the number of coconut planted lands in the country. Under the Kaprukai, Sipnenai Program 220,352 coconut saplings had been distributed among 111,966 students in 2,168 schools.  The CCB supplied 142,416 coconut saplings under the program to rehabilitate coconut cultivations, 2003 saplings to the Planting coconut seedlings in places of worship project and 1,116,232 saplings under the Kapruka Purawara project, the CCB sources added.
