National Program to identify island-wide Construction Technicians

    November 29, 2014

The Government has inaugurated a national program to empower construction technicians, under the Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Ministry.

The program is aimed at identifying construction technicians countrywide, register them at institutional level and provide them with proper training after issuing them with identity cards and grading them. This would ensure them with social recognition and job security. All technicians joining this scheme would be provided with social insurance and pension under a program implemented under the Construction Industry Development Act.

The Ministry is conducting a survey now in the Western Province to collect information on construction technicians through all Divisional Secretaries, Economic Development offices, NHDA District Managers, technical officers and Grama Niladharies.

The survey would be concluded on November 30.
