    Hydropower generation has increased with the rise in water levels of the Reservoirs.

    The water capacity at the Castlereigh Reservoir is 85.5 percent, Maoussakelle 88.1 percent, Kotmale 82.9 percent,

    Victoria 98.2 percent, Randenigala 82 percent and the Samanalawewa Reservoir is 52.7 percent.

     

    Therefore the Ceylon Electricity Board has taken initiatives to increase the power generation capacity up to 62 percent.

     

    The average capacity is in the region of 85 percent. 61 percent of the electricity needs are secured through the generation of hydropower.

     

    In addition, around 32 percent was obtained from Thermal power plants. Only limited power is being generated from plants in which a high cost incurs. He said that the generation of power through hydropower plants is profitable. .
