    Employment Opportunities for Rehabilitated LTTE Members Featured

    Approximately 12,030 former LTTE combatants who completed the rehabilitation programme have been released back into society and are now employed in public and private sector organisations.
    A total of 666 are employed in the civil defence force, 61 are teachers and 255 are employed in other positions in the Government sector. The Commissioner of Rehabilitation Maj. Gen. Jagath Wijetilleke said that in addition to those, another 205 individuals have been sent for foreign employment and 77 are pursuing further education.

    The rehabilitated former combatants are employed in a number of different fields, including as farmers, drivers, businessmen, electrical technicians, motor technicians, fishermen, masons and carpenters. Some are also working in the private sector, in private security firms, in demining work and in the field of information technology. Nearly 1,000 female members have opted to be housewives.
