    Scholarships for children of War Heroes

    A ceremony organized by the Ranaviru Seva Authority to award scholarships for children of War Heroes was held on Monday (06) at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Institute for International Relations and Strategic Studies (LKIIRS) in Colombo with the participation of State Minister of Defence Ruwan Wijewardene.

    Chairperson of the Ranaviru Seva Authority Mrs. Anoma Fonseka received the chief guest upon his arrival at the venue.

     

    One hundred and two deserving children of War Heroes, who had died or sustained total disability during non-operational periods were recipients of scholarships, the Defence Media Unit reported.

     

    Scholarships were awarded under the Foster Parent Scholarship programme in collaboration with the Kuwait- Sri Lanka Friendship Society.

     

    Speaking at the event State Minister Wijewardene said that as Sri Lankans we are able to enjoy the dividends of peace due to the sacrifices made by the war heroes and as a mark of appreciation the Ministry of Defence has taken measures to liaise with relevant agencies to provide relief to the problems faced by the War Heroes, he added . He reminded the children that they have received these scholarships due to the sacrifices of their parents and requested them to study well and be useful citizens.

     

    He also expressed his appreciation to the Kuwait-Sri Lanka Friendship Society and Sri Lankan expatriates in Kuwait for their magnanimity in coming forward to assist these children.

     

    Chairperson of the Kuwait- Sri Lanka Friendship Society, Mr. Gamini Wijeratna, Vice President of the Ranaviru Seva Authority and families of scholarship recipients were also present at the occasion.
