    State Minister visits Defence Services Command and Staff College

    State Minister of Defence Hon. Ruwan Wijewardene visited the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Sapugaskanda, Makola yesterday (14th Thursday, May 2015). He was received by the Commandant of the DSCSC Major General Udaya Perera up on his arrival at the college premises.

    The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) is the most prestigious and the highest seat of military education in Sri Lanka.

     

    It has as its aim to develop the professional knowledge and understanding of selected student officers from the tri-services, Sri Lanka Police, foreign countries and other public institutions in order to prepare them for appointments on command and staff, while imparting knowledge on government procedures.

     

    Since its inception in 1998 as the Army Command and Staff College (ACSC) the college has developed to be what it is today. The institution has trained hundreds of officers including foreign military officers.

     

    During his visit the State Minister inspected the facilities at the college and later addressed the staff and student officers at the auditorium. During his address he said that the Defence Services Command and Staff College renders an exceptional service to our country and as well as to many other countries and it facilitates the opportunity to develop professional knowledge and understanding of both in command and staff related duties of military officers.

     

    He appreciated the efforts of the War Heroes in defeating terrorism and saving the motherland and also said that the role of the alumni of the DSCSC in this endeavor is large and commendable. He reminded them of the future challenges of the country and said that they have to shoulder much responsibility in the march ahead.

     

    Noting the importance of providing better educational and skill development opportunities for the officers he said that the government will take steps to uplift the professional standards of the security forces personnel.

     

    He requested all to strive towards maintaining lasting peace, reconciliation, brotherhood and coexistence in the country.

     

    During the visit State Minister Wijewardene planted a tree and also accepted a memento presented by the Commandant of the DSCSC.

     

    Members of the staff, Ministry officials and student officers were present during the occasion.
