    International Buddhist Conference for the first time in Jaffna Featured

    The Karuna International Convention, the first International Buddhist Conference to be held in North on May 20 at the Weerasinham Hall, Jaffna, Ven. Banagala Upathissa Thera said addressing a media conference held at the Government Information Department today (19).

    The Ven.Thera pointed out that the aim of the Government is to maintain ethnic and religious harmony through this programme. Many in Jaffna are under the wrong impression that Buddhism is a religion which belongs to Sinhalese. However Buddhism is a global religion, the Thera added.

     

    According to Dhamma Vijaya Maha Viharaadikari Ven. Dr. Bodhipala Maha Thera, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe pledged support to uplift the Jaffna Tamil Buddhist Association that functions under the Jaffna Naga Vihara.

     

    65 members of the Triple Gem Foundation in Bangalore, India Tripitaka Tamil Foundation, Chennai Dhamma Vijaya Mahaviharaya and Madurai Buddhist Trust of Andra Pradesh will participate in this conference. Tamil monks and Tamil Buddhists from India will also participate.
