    Sri Lanka Navy participates at Ranaviru Commemorative Parade

    Sri Lanka Navy, the first line of defence of the island-nation, took part in the National Ranaviru Commemorative Parade held under the patronage of the President of Sri Lanka and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Maithripala Sirisena in Matara on yesterday (19). The Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy Vice Admiral Jayantha Perera was also among the dignitaries who graced the historic occasion.

    Commodore Sujeewa Perera was the most senior officer of the Naval contingent which comprised 1,615 naval personnel marching in various components. The mechanical component displayed various weapons fitted on-board ships of the Sri Lanka Navy showing the Navy’s capability of safeguarding the island nation.

     

    The ex-servicemen of the SLN, who had dedicated the prime of their youth to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the motherland since the World War II also participated in the parade for the first time adding grandeur to the national event commemorating the heroism and bravery of all war heroes.

     

    Offshore Patrol Vessels 'Samudura' and 'Sagara', Fast Missile Vessels 'Nandimitra' and 'Suranimala', Fast Gun Boats, 'Udara', 'Prathapa', 'Ranawickrema', and 'Abheetha II' belonging to the 3rd Fast Gun Boat Squadron and Fast Attack Craft belonging to the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla sailed in formation in the southern seas off Matara paying their tribute as the Naval Contingent marched past the special dais where the President took the salute of the Armed Forces and the Police. The parade concluded with a colourful parachute display by tri-forces personnel.
