22-pct of people lack housing facilities: Sajith Premadasa

    June 15, 2015

Minister Sajith Premadasa has revealed that about 22 percent of the people in the country are experiencing hardships due to the lack of housing facilities. He has queried as to what privileges had been received by the ordinary persons in society during the previous regime.

He has also queried as to what had happened to the money spent on MIG aircraft, multi-barrel rockets, Kafir jets and modern military hardware, when six years had passed since ending the war.

The Minister said this money could have been spent on building houses for 1.2 million families. He queried as to the miracles endowed to the ordinary masses. Such miracles were enjoyed only by the administrators.

Minister Sajith Preamdasa was addressing a function held in the Anuradhapura District for the granting of housing loans for low income families under the “Shelter for All” programme. 2300 families received housing loans.

In the meantime the handing over of land deeds to 69 families in the Anuradhapura area also took place under the auspices of the Housing Minister. The function was organized at the Youth Resort in Anuradhapura. Among those present on the occasion were Minister P. Harrison and Chandrani Bandara.
