On complaints received from retailers that they were being sold coconut oil mixed with cheap palm oil, samples of coconut oil were taken from several wholesale dealers at the Gasworks Junction, Pettah on Wednesday (17).
Acting Food Inspector, M.B. Lal Kumara said that 14 samples of coconut and palm oil had been taken from 12 wholesale dealers.
He said that if there were contaminated samples among what had been taken by the team, action would be taken under the regulations pertaining to oils in the 1980 Food Act No.26. to punish the unscrupulous traders.
