    Programme to promote power conservation Featured

    The Ministry of Power and Energy has taken steps to launch a programme to get the staff of the government institutions to promote Power Conservation and Efficient Utilization of power with the objective of getting energy usage in the government institutions reduced by 10%.

    Under this programme, an Energy Manager is to be appointed for each and every government institution. He is responsible for implementing the activities related to the energy conservation in the relevant institution and enhancing the energy conservation, minimizing the waste of Energy.

     

    At least 10% of the electricity consumption in every institute is expected to be reduced under this programme. At the same time, the technical assistance which is required for the government offices and awareness as well as monitoring will be done by the Sustainable Energy Authority. The government Institutions and the responsible officers, who manage the energy 'efficiently, will be rewarded and encouraged at the National Energy Award Ceremony which is conducted annually.

     

    Sri Lanka is incurring each year around 30 % of its national export income for the import of fuel required for generation of electricity. Similarly it has also been found through studies about 25% of the electricity supplied to people go waste due to the inefficient and careless usage.
