    Motor cycles to be registered

    August 31, 2016

There are many motor cycles which are not registered with the Department of Motor Traffic. Such motor cycles are very useful in rural areas where ample public transportation is absent and they contribute much for the rural agricultural economy and self employment.

A large income is lost due to the non registration of motor cycles. Therefore, the cabinet of ministers has decided to provide an opportunity to register such bicycles by imposing a surcharge for establishing the law by preventing frauds, corruption and theft in the country.

Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala De Silva proposed to the cabinet of ministers to grant registration for such motor cycles as a concession after checking the documents with regard to motorcycles that confirm with the provisions of the Motor traffic Act and not to prejudice legal importers of motorcycles. “The concession will be granted only for four months”, said minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake.
