Over 300 delegates representing South Asian Initiative for Diabetes in Pregnancy endorsed the Colombo Declaration demanding urgent action to address the link between maternal health and diabetes as a public health priority.
This took place during the 1st Asia Pacific Congress on Diabetes, Hypertension, and Metabolic syndrome in Pregnancy in Colombo from 8-10 September.
According to the Sources there are about 85 million people with diabetes in South Asia. Another 45 million are already in pre-diabetic Conditions. The 85 million is expected to be doubled to 150 million by 2040.
