    Action Plan on Dengue prevention to be implemented

    The Action Plan to Control the Dengue Epidemic prepared by WHO representatives, who arrived in the island, will be implemented. It will control Dengue by 50 percent within four weeks, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathne said.


    He said the Action Plan would be implemented after apprising the officers of the Health Ministry in this regard today (24th July).

     


    According to the minister, implementation of this Action Plan would help to reduce the number of deaths due to Dengue. The WHO representatives have indicated that the proper treatment services have helped to keep the death toll at 3 percent.

     


    During Dengue Prevention campaigns held in Panadura and Keselwatte areas recently, the minister further added that a three-day island-wide dengue prevention program will be conducted at schools and public institutions from 28th July with the assistance of Ministry of Education and other relevant authorities.

     


    According to statistics of National Dengue Prevention Unit, 102, 849 Dengue patients and 297 dengue deaths have been reported so far this year.
