International Conference on Applied psychology commenced

August 25, 2017

The opening ceremony of the 4th International Conference on Applied psychology was held today (25th Aug) under the patronage of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna in Colombo.

The conference will be held until 27th August where representatives from 15 countries are present.

Minister Senaratna addressing the conference said that this conference is important as decisions will be taken on the issues and reasons for mental illnesses.

He said that the ministry has taken a decision to appoint 25 specialist psychatric consultants for the 25 districts.

It is important that doctors who treat mentally ill patients gather together.
The 30-year war and tsunami are reasons for Sri Lankans to feel pressurized mentally. Therefore solving the mental issues is important as a nation.

A well known psychologist from USA Prof. Martin Seligman is also in Sri Lanka to participate at the conference.
