Asia Pacific Forest Commission sessions in Colombo

The 27th session of the Asia Pacific Forest Commission will be held from 23rd-27th October at the BMICH, said Mahaweli Development Ministry Secretary Anura Dissanayaka.

 

The session is themed "Forestry in a new landscape" and the opening ceremony will be held on 24th October under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena.

 


Preparation of guidelines for forest management, approval of regional forests and landscape mapping strategies, presentation of plants in the urban landscape, presentation of food for nutrition security, community forest management approach and forestry resource assessment in year 2020 are some of the themes to be discussed at the session.

 


In addition, two field visits have been organized to provide delegates an experience on Sri Lankan forests and elephant conservation while various international and local institutions will have 16 stalls.

 


There are 33 members in the Asia Pacific Forest Commission while it is expected that over 300 delegates will participate.
