Extremists are trying to undermine the peace and reconciliation process in Sri Lanka, former President Ms. Kumaratunge said that a small minority were igniting the flames of religious extremism.

Former President was speaking at the All Island School Art and Essay Competition awards ceremony held at the BMICH. Over 9, 000 school students submitted art and essays on the theme ‘Unity and Diversity is the Strength of Our Nation’.

The vast majority of our country and our religious leaders need unity and reconciliation, she added.
