    Court granted Rs.800, 000 compensation to British tourist Featured

    Supreme Court today granted compensation and cost amounting to Rs.800, 000/- to the British Tourist, Naomi Coleman, who was arrested at airport and detained for having Lord Budha tattoo on her upper arm, in 2014.

     

    Police officers of Katunayaka Police involved in arrest and detention were also directed to pay 50,000/- each personally.

     

    She was detained by police a later deported on a court order, contrary to the law governing immigration and emigration. JC Weliamuna PC appeared for the tourist and DSG Parinda Ranasinghe for Police.
