Increased spot fines for traffic violations from today

Vehicle traffic Police announce that the revised spot fines will be imposed from today for 33 traffic violations. The revision in fines for traffic violations is aimed at minimizing traffic accidents.The relevant increase in fines was announced in an extraordinary gazette notification issued on the 15th of January this year.

Accordingly, the Rs. 1,000 fine for non-compliance with Speed limits provisions will be increased to Rs. 3,000 police spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. According to the revised fines, the mimimum fine of Rs. 20 has been increased to Rs. 500.

A fine of Rs. 1000 will be charged on account of failure to carry the driving license when driving, failure to display Revenue License, using inappropriate signals when driving, failure to use seat belts, and Non-compliance with traffic signs.Rs. 2000 spot fine will be imposed for failure to comply with road rules.The Police Media Spokesperson further stated that four offenses that were produced before the court have been removed. Instead 14 new offenses have been added.
