Sri Lankan refugees return from Tamil Nadu

A group of Sri Lankan refugees who had been residing in Tamil Nadu for over 25 years returned to the country yesterday. The group is to be resettled in their original lands. The groups consists of 34 refugees which include 20 women.

According to reports, the group returned to Sri Lanka on their own accord. The refugees had been repatriated through the joint efforts of the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and the ministry of rehabilitation and resettlement.

The group is believed to have fled the country on fishing vessels through Mannar.
