    77th birth commemoration of the late Most Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera was held

    The 77th birth commemoration of the late Most Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera was held at the Lavender Hall of BMICH in Colombo yesterday (29). Religious ceremonies were conducted by Kotte Sri Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha Chief Prelate of Sabaragamuwa Province Ven.Paththoriye Wimalagnana Thera.

    Attorney at Law Ravi Jayawardena expressing his views said the late Ven.Maduluwawe Sobitha Thera rendered a great service for society under the National Movement for Social Justice organization Further, he said that the country lost Ven. Sobitha Thera at a most crucial time in its history.

    He said if the Thera was alive today, the country could have shifted more towards a positive socio, religious and political change.He also recalled how the late Ven. Sobitha Thera worked tirelessly to bring political change at the last Presidential election. The commemorative speech was delivered by Prof. Sarath Wijesuriya.

    He stated that the country is heading towards a head on collision between the Executive and the Legislature, adding that this should not be taken lightly. He noted that the country is in dire need of moral intervention by its leaders at this critical time in order to prevent this political crisis.

    Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Minister Naveen Dissanayake, Minister Harsha De Silva, Deputy Minister Karunarathne Paranavithana, MP Mayantha Dissanayake, former Minister Tissa Attanayake, members of the clergy and several other dignitaries were present.
