Officers should work to ensure the benefit of the public – President

The government has taken steps to ensure the public officials have the required facilities to provide efficient public service to the masses. Thus it is the responsibility of the field officials to resolve the issues faced by the people especially those who live in rural areas, President Maithripala Sirisena said.
President Sirisena made these observations when he declared open the ‘Nila Sewana’ office at Nissankamallapura in Polonnaruwa today (22nd) afternoon.

A total of hundred and eighty (180) ‘Nila Sewana’ offices and two (02) railway complexes have been constructed in Polonnaruwa District, covering all the seven Divisional Secretariats. These ‘Nila Sewana’ offices have been set up in Thamankaduwa, Dimbulagala, Welikanda, Lankapura, Medirigiriya, Hingurakgoda and Elahera Divisional Secretariat Divisions. These offices facilitates the public to obtain the services of Grama Niladhari, Development Officer, Samurdhi Development Officer and Agriculture Research & Production Assistant under one roof. The total cost for the construction of these offices is around Rs. 30 million.

Symbolizing the handing over of these 180 ‘Nila Sewana’ offices to the public, the President declared open the ‘Nila Sewana’ Offices in Raum Palama in Bendiwewa and Nissankamallapura in Polonnaruwa. Simultaneously, other ‘Nila Sewana’ offices, government were opened by relevant government officials. Ministers Mr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksha, Mr. Dayasiri Jayasekara, Mr. Dilan Perera, Mr. S.B. Navinna, Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Mr. Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Mr. Abdul Kadhar Masthan, and Members of Parliament, political representatives, Governor of South Province Mr. Shan Wijayalal, Governor of North Western Province Mr. Peshala Jayarathne, Governor of the Western Province Mr. A.J.M. Mussamil, Governor of the Central Province Mr. Maithree Gunarathne, Governor of Sabaragamuwa Province Mr. Damma Disanayake were also joined the occasions.

Meanwhile, the President also opened two railway quarters constructed with all modern facilities in Polonnaruwa, and Kaduruwela. The total cost of the railway housing project is Rs. 485 million.Ministers Mr. Arjuna Ranathunga, Mr. Ravi Karunanayake and several others were also present on the occasion.
